This is a post I wanted to write since I first started the blog. I started it a few times, always ending by deleting it after a few lines. I thought that not many people think the way I do, I thought I might offend some people but now I realized that it wasn’t true, there are a lot of people who think the way I do and we have to speak up.
A zombie outbreak in the future? NO!
There will be no zombie outbreak in the future, no. You know why? Because it already started years ago.
What are zombies? Just slaves of their own never-ending hunger. They only need to feed themselves, they have no feelings, they don’t care about what happens around them unless it’s something to eat, they do not care about the zombie next to them. I’m sure they have no idea why they have to eat, it’s only about survival instinct.
Years ago, our society suffered a transformation. It was not over night, it took years and I’m sure we haven’t seen the end of it.
When we transformed from individuals to members of the X or Y group we started loosing our humanity.
What am I talking about?
There are a lot of examples I could give you but I will remind you only of a few, maybe we will make a bigger list together.
A job you aspire to
There was a time when people were choosing what to do in life based on something they loved, based on something they were good at, based on something they would aspire to. When people realized what they want to in life everything became a journey to that point, life was not boring, it was an adventure.
A person that is dedicated to what he does and it’s good at it and receives recognition for that thing he does is happy. Happiness, then, becomes the fuel for something more.
Maybe this never happened, maybe this past time is only in my imagination but I think this is how things should be.
How are things today? We do things we don’t like, with people we don’t like for objectives we do not relate to. That generates sadness, frustration, that kills us from inside and turns us into zombies.
Maybe some of us are lucky and find something they love to do but there’s always a problem, in many cases the problem is that we need to survive, we need to eat, we need to take care of our children … and then what we do? we sacrifice our dreams for survival … and so we die a little more. We always say that in the future it will all be good, that maybe we will get a second chance and we will live our children’s lives but that almost never happens.
Dreams are not only about the job you do. Dreams are part of every moment of our lives. We dream about a lot of things since birth.
When we go to school it’s the first time when we start killing our dreams. The need for social acceptance, for being part of some group makes us different and we start killing our dreams. And that’s when we start to die inside and the zombie within us starts to show his face.
Later on, as we grow up, we just get better at killing our dreams. When we start realizing it we begin to find excuses, “I’ll do it later“, “I’ll see about that when I have more time” … and so on.
I could go on …
… with the examples but I think you get the picture.
We look around us, we see what’s normal and we want to become that, to be accepted. We need to survive and for that we need to be accepted in the society. And that turns us into zombies.
Where is the problem?
It’s easy to say that the society is the problem but we are part of it, we are part of the problem. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that we are, also, part of the solution.
The core: education and health
A nation that is not educated and sick it’s easy to turn in a zombie nation.
One can only evolve through education. We have a limited number of years to live, why spend it by doing the same mistakes that people before us did? That’s what education is good for, to learn from other people experience’s.
One can only keep going if he’s healthy, that’s simple.
… is inside us. We have the zombie antidote built-in our DNA. We just have to believe in it and still be able to dream about a better world.
